Hello! I have a couple of questions about a tattoo idea I’ve had for a while, so I thought I’d come here.
What I would like to get is a tattoo of an Amazonian milk frog (http://image60.webshots.com/160/9/66/45/2021966450050205483GBjWfj_ph.jpg), and I’d like to get surface piercings through its eyes.
I’m not sure what kind of process people normally go through for this sort of thing. I’d like it to be color, but I don’t know if they could even do that sort of muted blue-ish white that I like so much on the frog. I also want to know if people think I should get the tattoo artist himself/herself to do the art, or outsource for the design. I want it to be as realistic as possible. I’m not sure where I want to get it, so opinions/comments on that would be great too. It would be fairly large, maybe a little smaller than a drink coaster, although if the pose is stretched it would obviously be longer or shorter.
Has anyone gotten surface piercings on/through a tattoo before? I know it can be done, but I’d like to know if anyone has personal experiences, how they went about getting it done, and what they recommend as far as how long to wait after the tattoo is finished, what kind of jewelry to get, etc.
Thanks!
Hi
The link to your milk frog didn’t work
That said it is possible to get a good shade of pale blue flowing if you have an artist who is experienced in animal portraiture.
The bigger it is the more detail can be fitted into the tattoo – a coaster size will be sufficient for a detailed of them.
I looked up what they were and I can say it must be some sort of special you love you have the slimy looking buggers…:D
The piercings – well you can go down 2 routes here;
(Mircro) Dermal anchors these are the very deep piercings that are pretty much permanent – it is possible to remove them but much harder than a surface piercing. You can also change the heads on them once healed and for an eye you can go for a flush cap similar to those used in a snake bite or maybe a ball so it stands out against the tattoo like a bulbous eye.
Please note to take these out when they have healed can require pliers or a scalpel.
Surface piercing – these do not go as deep and will gradually rise from the piercing as the skin heals and replenishes over time.
They have a finite life but allow much more freedom of choice if you change your mind.
Take Care
Matthew
Oh, oops. Here’s a couple other links:

I’m glad to hear you think the color can be achieved. I have never gotten a tattoo, so I wasn’t sure what kind of subtle coloring they could make.
Haha, yeah, I’m an animal lover. I have a couple snakes (as well as cats, dogs, and a parrot), and my favourite animal is the okapi. ๐ I picked a milk frog because I find them aesthetically pleasing but do not have any personal ties to them, or to frogs in general, so I feel that the design will last through time.
Thanks for the piercing info! I assume it will be many months, if not a year or more, before I can pierce through the tattoo, so I’ll have time to get used to having it on me. I’d really like to get jewelry that resembles the milk frog’s eyes, so I might go for the dermal anchor. I’m no stranger to piercings, and this design is six years in the making so I don’t think I’d have to have it removed in the future. But if so, I’d be willing to go through whatever pain is involved in their removal.
Thanks again for the info. ๐ I’ll be asking tattoo artists and piercers (lucky me, my friend owns a tattoo parlor) about the more technical details and design ideas, but having information to work with is going to make the whole process a lot easier.
I don’t wanna be a broken record; but I would reccomend getting micros.
A) B/C I’ve done alot of these around existing tatts
B) Longer lasting; less pain, easy to take care of, && they really make the tatt “pop”
