    Hey all

I’ve just joined and will do a little intro but I am obsessing about this so thought I’d post my question first!

So, I have deliberated for years about getting my first tattoo, finally decided that I am going to go for it to mark the end of my 20s, and after doing a bit of online browsing, I’m now scared that what I want won’t work.

I want a quotation of around 20 words, over three lines, to be on one side of my back just below the ribs. I wanted this in a very clean, thin, defined, handwriting style font and had picked out CAC Pinafore. I was looking at 28point lettering. I know this probably seems deeply boring to some of you guys with works of art on you, but it is honestly what I want and what would mean something to me.

After looking online, I am now worried that this is going to be too small and will bleed/fade very quickly. I do accept that all tattoos will fade in time and understand this, but could anyone advise if this font is suitable for a tattoo? Will I need to make it bigger or change the font?

I know I should really contact a tattoo artist and I will, but first off it would be great to get some input from people on here. I am worried about picking out the right artist and would like to not sound like a complete ignoramus when speaking to them about it!

    Thanks for reading.

    Hi

First of all it is not boring and is perfectly understandable that you would have worries.

The size is not too small as it will be a fair size and I have seen many tattoos with much smaller writing. The trick is not to go under a 12 if at all possible. A 28 is more than large enough to survive the inevitable blurring – you need to update around every 10 years.

    The bigger the better.

My other advice is that you should consider leaving the back area as tattooing is addictive and that is your biggest canvas.

It is painful perhaps have it as a panel tattoo on your ribs?

If you want I have done a first draft tattoo book (its free to the community) that might answer several of your questions there is also a chapter on how to choose an artist.

Send me a PM with an email and I will mail it across – it is in rough format but easy to navigate.

    Take Care

Thank you so much for your input.
I’d love to read your book and will send you a PM just now, that’s really kind of you.

I am looking at a lot of different fonts just now, but they are all essentially handwriting style fonts. The sizing varies so much on them. I’m just really unsure about things I guess. Thank you!
