Hey everyone. This is my first post here and it’s concerning my first tattoo. I want to get a simple knight chess-piece on my thumb, between my 1st and second knuckle (the big section) I really am resolved that I want it: I just want the outline in black and then filled in gray.

So…. There’s two hot girls in the tattoo shop who both have tattoos on their fingers: However, one’s have “fallen out” and the other girl’s have stayed. They told me that my ink may stay, or may drop out, and there’s no way to tell, no guarantee etc…

They said that they’ll do free touch-ups if it’s required.

BUT, they also say that there’s a risk that the ink will just drop out again and again, and it’ll never stick. If that happens, I’ll have a crap looking tattoo. I really want it, and I don’t mind touch ups, even if it takes several. I don’t mind it fading, or aging. BUT I don’t want a crap looking, patchy blob thing on my thumb that I can’t ever get to look good.

In you guy’s experience, what are the chances that the ink will never stay? Is this common or rare?

    ps. Hello everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Clark

Ok let me just get this right….

You want a tattoo between you first and second knuckle on your thumb – do you mean the outside or the insde of your thumb (where the palm is)?

If you mean the outer (thumb showing back of hand facing you) and they are saying the ink may drop out – then frankly they must be the world’s and I mean this in the most offensive way possible – shittiest tattoo scratchers I have ever had the misfortune to be told of.
The ink would only ever come out is 1. It was really crappily done or 2. You picked the scab off. 3. You let me have a go at it having never used a machine. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If this is the case under no circumstances get a tattoo from them regardless of how ‘hot’ or free touchups they offer. ๐Ÿ™

If you mean the inside of the thumb (where the palm is showing) Please ignore the first statement. ๐Ÿ˜€
The palm is is a much softer part of the body to tattoo and the ink may not take as well – this is because like the soles of feet the skin is rubbed all the time and sloughs away.

It is a crap place to try and get a tattoo and will be an endless battle to keep it inked.

I would maybe consider speaking with other artists who may not be as physically attractive but maybe much more skilled.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Sherav, thanks for the advice! I am talking about the top of my thumb, not the underside. I’ll upload a picture into my album to show you what I mean. (I drew it on myself in biro)

here is what I am thinking.

After what you’ve said, I think I’m going to look up and speak to some other artists tomorrow.

    Hi Clark

I would definitely speak with other artists if you are set on getting it done. A decent tattooist would be able to make a nice job of it.

If you were getting it done over the knuckle I could understand maybe some blurring or stretching as the skin is constantly stretching and retracting.

But based on your drawing the skin there is as static as say a shoulder blade or bicep and so the ink should not just drop out.

Hope to see the finished result if you get it done.

    Take Care

    Matthew
