Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum; I’ve been kicking around this tattoo idea for a few years now and I think I might actually get it done sometime soon. This is my first tattoo, but I hang around with a lot of people who have tattoos and have been with someone while they were getting inked, as well as knowing a few tattoo artists, so I’m pretty much down with how it works out.
Basically, I haven’t gotten this done yet for a few reasons. Initially it was money, but now it’s more down to design than anything else. It seems simple enough, but for some reason I never really fleshed it out completely. Which is even more surprising, because it’s just text.
I’m interested in getting the lyrics from Orchid’s “…And The Cat Turned To Smoke” on my right side. Here’s the lyrics as they are typed up on the insert that came with both the LP and the CD:
“I’ll see you this summer.”
-but we knew that it was over.
That’s just what you you say to someone
who’s dying.
that’s just what you say.
This is to us.
our hands fit, at least for a while.
I miss the face, I miss the taste
I’m sorry about it all. . .
Obviously I don’t want to include the typos or punctuation errors, so I was probably going to fix it to something like this:
“I’ll see you this summer.”
But we knew that it was over.
That’s just what you say to someone
Who’s dying.
That’s just what you say.
This is to us.
Our hands fit, at least for a while.
I miss the face, I miss the taste
I’m sorry about it all. . .
Or something similar. Basically, this part really comes down to how it fits on my side, which is really my question. It seems like this either is going to have to be inked on in too small of a font or it could take up too much space on my side and not look right. Maybe I just have to go to a tattoo artist and ask about it, so that they would be able to see how it would actually fit, but I was just wondering if this was too much to fit on like a 5″x4″ space on my side.
Also, I’m having trouble trying to pick out what kind of font I want to get it in. The lyrics on the insert are in typewriter font (they were originally written with a typewriter for the effect, which is why there are so many errors in the original lyrics), but I don’t think that would look the greatest, and would lose its intended effect as a tattoo. I’m looking for something to match the mood of the song, which is incredibly intense and pretty somber (maybe that’s too strong of a word). I was thinking some kind of cursive, but I don’t want it to be too stylized either; I’d prefer it to be easily read. Anyways, any ideas on that as well would be appreciated.
