Hi everyone this is my first tattoo and almost in my third week of healing. I was wondering if this was normal for my tattoo after the scabs start to peel off i see some white/grey layer of skin covering it.

my tattoo artist say dont use any cream, and only use scent free soap to clean it, no showers longer than 10mins and such and such. I didnt pick at the scabbs and they feel off on their own. So what should i do? is it normal or do i need to get a touch up ?
Hi Vishnu
Whilst I have seen silver skin before which is usually a thin layer that looks like a solid case of pigment reaction.
What sort of ink did that artist use? Something with lead chromate??
My advice is keep that well clean and moisturise it very carefully.
The skin will eventually peel off but it is likely to take all the ink with it and leave a scar outline.
You will have to leave it at least 2 months after it has peeled to ensure the skin beneath is healed enough to take a recolour.
My other advice is find another artist and really check those inks.
If it does not peel in another week you need to seek specialist medical help as they may need to surgically remove it so you don’t get blood poisoning.

i have actually seen silver skin look like that on darker skin tones before but i certainly wouldn’t rule out Matthew’s answer about the pigment reaction . It would be a real shame as i love Aum tattoos 😉
some reactions do settle down on their own without having to have them removed but it would need re doing again ( i would go to a different artist )
Does it hurt or itch a lot ? is they any signs of that second layer of skin coming off ?
well it doesnt hurt at all, ya i am tempted to pick at my scabs but who isnt 😛 but na the sliver part isnt really itcy, ya i will probly go to a different artist, btw how do you moisturise it very carefully?
well i use savlon on my tattoos from day one . just a put a little blob on your finger and then rub it in .
I recently ( a week today ) had some kanji done and its looking a little like yours is but when i wash my tattoo it looks jet black again so i know its just very dry skin .
does yours look that same colour after it is washed ?
did you go to a tattoo studio ?
Hi
Mainly you have to be ultra careful hands and fingernails are clean so not to cross infect the tattoo.
Hopefully the skin will peel away and leave you with a tattoo I was just preparing you for a worst case scenario that I have seen (quite a few times).
Do not pick at it as you will get an infection.

kk well should i use any lotion, also to add most of the scabbs have fallen off in the last few hours, woke up to see a few on my pillow. I got the tattoo in toronto, scarborgh and I am now in London england, should i find a good artist here to look at it. Yes I did go to a studio to get my tattoo done. The first time I washed it after i got it done it looked the same colour, only after the scabbs started to come off it looked like this. Some ppl tell me that it is because I didnt push any creams on it, not sure if that is the reason. My artist told me dont use any creams on it. Just let it heal on its own you will be fine. Btw what is savlon?
