    HI..
My name is Derek, im eighteen years old and I want a tattoo.
But, not just any tattoo like the rest of my college class in Greensboro.
I want a angel, as sort of a memorial to my late grandmother..but..im having trouble finding REALLY good designs.
I want it on my forearm and im willing to wait until i find the right design.
But thats what im struggling with…help..please?

Hi Mate. No one can choose your art for you. Wait…..Until you are very sure what you want. The tattoo will still be just as good. You are still young buddy! In good time i say. Welcome.

    Hi Derek

    Memorial tattoos are a big thing to have as a first tattoo for 2 reasons;

You will be carrying a reminder of your grandfather’s passing on you for life. I have lost nearly all of my family by the age of 22 (I am now 32) so I do feel for you – but you have to be sure that this style of tattooing is something that you really want.

The second is finding the right artist – angels are human portraiture but with the added difficulty of getting the wings and proportions correct.

I would suggest deviant art as a starting point particulary http://www.thehomeofjon who does some fantastic warrior/masculine type angels.

I am at work but if not to your taste let me know and I will get you some more links once you decide on teh style of angel you want.

    Things to consider are

Gender (Yes i know angels are amorphic but in a tattoo do you prefer male or female?)

What pose – do you want them in a praying stance – carrying a scroll, warrior/defensive stance, weeping etc

How big are you wanting to go arm or full backpiece?

    Colour or black and shade?

Also if you ever want to bang me a pm on any issues on how to cope with grief/anger or just let out steam I am happy to listen.

    Take Care
    Matthew

Welcome, and I’m sure you’ll find what your looking for. In college there are many art students. Why don’t you make friends with some?
