I am new to these forums and new to tattoos. I am 27 and trying to figure out what I want to get for my first tattoo. I am of the belief that I want to get something that I won’t look back on in 20-30 years and wonder what the hell was I thinking, but as time goes on, I am starting to wonder if it is really that important.
Currently I am leaning towards either footprints or hand prints with my son’s name on them or an archangel with a sword. How do you guys decide what to get? Do you do a lot of research or do you just go in and pick something when you get to the shop?
Hi
Before you listen to anything just write this down and slap it on your computer where you can see it.
INK IS FOR LIFE!
The biggest mistake a lot of people make is that they get their first tattoo with little or no thought to what they want.
I have nothing against flash – a lot of it is great and make very nice tattoos. That said you don’t want a massive piece of tribal just because you fancy a tattoo.
Research it – look at variations of what inspires you.
Pin up the image for a month and look at it everyday. If you find that you don’t like it at the end then don’t get it done or change it.
Research the artist – can they do the type of tattoo you want? Are they sterile?
Both ideas make very nice tattoos and to be honest tattooing is addictive and you may end up getting both.
Here is a link for some great warrior angel art

I am nearly finished copying my ebook which is a tattoo intro for newcomers to wordpress but if you want the word format I am happy to email you it (it is free to the community).
It may answer a lot of the questions you have.
Take Care

thanks for the link. I actually just got done looking at that site from a link in another post. Those are similar to other designs I have already saved for inspiration. You are probably right about the addictive nature and I will probably end up getting both. I would definitely like a copy of your document. I will send you a private message with my email address.
