I need help finding symbols, animals etc as signs of protection. I want to have my first tattoo on my upper back and want it to symbolise the love and protection I have for my 3 boys (2 3 and 5).
The only symbol I have found so far is the Knot of Motherhood but wondered if anyone with more artistic creativity and knowledge can share any other ideas.Thankyou for your time.

Apparently, with regards to animals, an alligator or a crocodile can be a symbol of maternal protection (according to this site – http://onespiritx.tripod.com/magick18.htm ) – whether or not you’d want a crocodile tattoo I don’t know!
I don’t know if this will be of any help to you – it’s a list of animals and their symbolisms in different cultures – http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/middle/animals2.htm – in a couple of places it mentions eagles as being a symbol of protection from evil, which make lovely tattoos.
