I’m thinking about going to get a tattoo Saturday on my right shoulder (i want it to run all the way down my bicep, and to my elbow). I have a general idea of what I want but I haven’t had any luck with a tattoo artist drawing me up something I’d like. What I was thinking about getting, so the a tattoo of the Germanic god of war Tyr holding a war-hammer/ sword. In the background I wanted some burning ruins (to represent war), and a flag with the Irish coat of arms (I want this tat to reflect on my heritage *hence German and Irish influences). If anyone could help, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, Cody.
Take the idea to a good artist and they will work with you on it 🙂
Make sure you get a decent artist. Check my signature link for top artists.
Welcome to the forum!
Peterpoose is correct. There are many good artist’s out there that will work with you. Be prepared to pay a deposit for the artwork.

Hello Cody, welcome to the forum.
Your post confused me a little. You say that you are thinking of getting a tattoo on Saturday, but haven’t had luck with an artist drawing something that you like. Do you mean you already have an appointment? Or are you planning to do a walk-in somewhere?
If you have an appointment and don’t like what your artist is coming up with then either you are having trouble communicating what it is that you are expecting or he is not the right artist for you. Either way do not start the tattoo unless you really love what is drawn up. (Lasering off a large tattoo that you are unhappy with is painful and EXPENSIVE.)
If you are going to do a walk in, does that mean that you have been asking artists to draw up a design for you to take somewhere else? Most will not do that. And any really good artist won’t tattoo someone else’s design anyway.
Like the other guys said – the first step is finding a really good artist and talking to them. An artist that excels in the style that you want to get. They will probably charge you a deposit or a drawing fee before they start.
And remember if you don’t like what they come up with then they can make changes, and if you still don’t like it then it will always be cheaper to walk away from a deposit/drawing fee than to pay for a tattoo you don’t love plus laser plus a cover-up. Especially a big one like you are looking for.
So … please follow peterpoose’s advice. And get an outstanding tattoo.
Sounds like a kick ass idea. I think you may be a bit confused how to get a tattoo, you don’t just go to get a tattoo just like that(if you want it to turn out decent).
You need to spend some time researching a great tattooist then you make an appointment. The good thing is you came here first we may be able to help in your research of tattooist. Where do you live?
This is what you almost ended up with:
