Hi.

quick question. basically im getting my first tattoo on the 4th of sept. and thats also the night that a friend of mine has invited me for a night out (drinking alcohol). I had heard that drinking alcohol should not happen 24 hrs before and after getting a tattoo is this true?
also, should i risk going out and possibly bumping into someone which tends to be un-avoidable when there are lots of ppl and they are drinking.

just a little concern from, dont want to damage the new tattoo before i can even really enjoy it

Well, first things first, I’m pretty sure that alcohol acts as a blood thinner, henceforth the reason not to drink before or after a tattoo..(dont quote me on that, but I’m pretty sure)…and as for going out that night, you’ll probably have a bandage type deal covering your tattoo (and depending on where it is on your body) i’m sure its possible you can get bumped into and whatnot…probably won’t feel too pleasant..but other than that, its your choice to go out or not, i just wouldnt recommend drinking or partying up too hard, there’ll be tons of other nights to cut loose once your tattoo’s healed a bit! just my 2 cents.
Whatcha getting done, by the way?

Think of it this way… you have a large open wound on you, covered in bandages.
Will it hurt when someone bumps into it? Oh yes.
Will you sweat when out partying? Oh yes.
Does salt (sweat is salty) in open wounds hurt? Oh yes! ๐Ÿ˜‰

On top of all that, depending on how big of a tat you are getting you might not WANT to go out after. On larger pieces I get really tired afterwards… it takes a lot out of you being in pain and low level shock for hours on end.

thanks for all the advice. i was pretty sure i wasnt going to go before making this, now im pretty much 100% sure. true that there is plenty of time afterwards.
just one more question, is it you cant drink 24hrs or is it 48hrs before getting the tattoo?
i do generally have a drink after work, so just want to make sure i dont really lol.

and to those interested im getting this on my shoulder blade : http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Y8dVgrlzuG0/Sl6Q3VUJRnI/AAAAAAAAA0g/Dd75NyOWWjU/s400/tribal-lion-tattoo-designs_03.jpg

When in doubt, err on the side of caution. Just leave at 48 hours and you’re safe ๐Ÿ™‚
Oh, and you also shouldn’t drink AFTER the tattoo for a day or two… bloodthinning is equally bad then ๐Ÿ™‚
