Hi guys,
While I am still mulling over this idea I was hit by another inspiration by looking through vintage cloisonné enamel jewellery (I happen to collect earrings and brooches of that style).
One day before I got my first tattoo I had a misbehaving yet harmless mole cut out of my right shoulder cap and the area has healed up quite nicely. I am thinking of covering the whole shoulder cap up with something along these lines:
Obviously the linework would nee to be changed to b/w and cleaned up and I’d tweak the colours a bit. Apart from that any thoughts?
Regards,
Asenath
I love this idea! The shape would work great as a shoulder cap tattoo. Personally, I really like the colors in the pic on the right. I like how they kinda blend together rather than being so segregated like the one on the left. 😀 You should definitely get this- it would be beautiful.
i love peacock tattoos and peacock feathers also look nice. i think that style one would work well
I agree with you and think the left one is probably a cheaper version of the right one, they sometimes did that. I only put both up because you can see the outlines a bit better on the left one. The right one appears to be slightly curved at the top and bottom.
Here’s a first draft, what do you think?
I like your first draft better than the others
is it going to be more realistic ( feather like )
Probably not, I really like the simplicity of it. Might add a few highlights to give it a bit of a stylized feather pattern but will have to print it out in its final size to decide. There’s not a whole lot of space on my shoulder cap :S
I like the simplicity of the design, but I’m not crazy about the colors. I don’t think they pop. I like the greens and blues a lot, and I think the yellow is unusual, but I like it. But together it just doesn’t seem as bright as a peacock feather should be- it’s like a muted version. Is that what you were going for?
I would add some purple, or make it more jewel-toned.
Hi
As a cap it will work well my only concern is the yellow.
The yellow pigments do not always last well unless you go really vibrant.
Looking forward to seeing the end product and also very glad to hear the mole was nothing serious.
Take care
Matthew
to be honest i would have it more real looking. i feel its a bit cartoony
i agree that it looks a bit cartoonish but if that’s what you prefer then go for it. i personally would want it to be just a little bit more realistic
p
Thanks for all the input guys!
This is still a very rough first draft, I’ll have to print it in the final size to see how much detail can be added… learned my lesson from the betta!
I’ll definitely add some more shading though, especially highlights to emulate the single “strands”, these are just the base colours
– About the yellow colour – this one is interesting, I actually looked up a few existing peacock feather tattoos to see which colours are doable and which aren’t but I guess I’ll have to go more reddish then?

UPDATE: Made the colours a little more vibrant, fixed the yellow into a slightly more orange-y colour and added some texture.
UPDATE: After meeting Tommy, the owner of Belfast City Skin Works a while ago at a friend’s art exhibition I dragged my sorry derriere to the studio today to make an appointnemt. I mean, it’s at least two weeks. Right? Wrong.
They have some guest artists over at the moment, including a Swedish girl who does a lot of olf school / new school stuff according to the portfolio I got to look at. I am sure she can improve the piece to look decent.
Oh yeah, the appointment is on MONDAY 3PM!
