Hello everyone,
I’m new to the forum and I joined cause I have a question about my almost 5 mth old tattoo that doesn’t quite seem right. I am hoping some of your expertise can help me.
My sisters, cousins and I (5 of us) all went and had a tattoo done in my Mom’s memory at the beginning of May. The 2 that had them done on their foot had problems with infection and their tattoo’s are very pale looking, the other 2 had theirs on their leg and they turned out fine, mine was also done on the lower leg above the ankle. Mine healed quite well at the time but I have noticed that it is very rough feeling when you rub your hand over it. I have 3 other tattoo’s that were done previous to this one. If you run your hand over them they are smooth, you don’t even feel them, they feel as smooth as the rest of my skin. But this tattoo is rough and feels like I have severe dry skin. I moisturize all my tattoo’s (and skin too) daily so I know I don’t have dry skin. But this tattoo looks dry and when you rub it you can see that it is cracked looking. Like if I stretch the skin in that area you can see skin color inbetween the ink color. I don’t think it was done right. I can’t go back to the place where it was done as it is closed due to the owners death. Can this be re-inked? I am afraid to get it redone and making it more of a mess. Any suggestions?
TIA
Hi , have you got a before pic and a recent pic that you can show us ?
Hi
To be honest it sounds like you have scar tissue beneath the pigment – did the tattooist really work the area hard because this can create a rough feeling just beneath the skin. (Tattooing is arguably a method of pigment scarification).
It can take 12 months for this feeling to go and will need daily moisturtiser – you will also find it may become bumpy when exposed to heat or cold which is quite normal.
A re-ink is usually possibly after 5 months but I would wait another month to make sure that everything is 100% healed beneath the skin.
Take Care
Matthew
