I’m looking into getting my first tattoo but can’t think of a design. I would like something that will be timeless, and still meaningful and relevant even many years from now. I’d like to get something small in a place that I would be able to keep covered up for work, possibly on the back of my hip (thoughts?.
I love music, my friends and family, anything cultural or philosophical. I also like things that are a little bit alternative or avant garde. I’m a terrible artist and have no ability to put down these ideas onto paper as an actual design and would love any design ideas that you might be able to offer me. Thanks a million for your help.

For us to help you need to be more specific.
There are thousands of tattoo ideas but first of all you have to decide on the following;
Style: Fantasy, Biomech, Portrait, Floral , Old School, Animal, Religious, or Text?
Black and shade or Colour
Size you say small but how small?
The smaller they are the harder they become for fine detail so may need to be simple.
One idea that came to mind was your fave flower with some music notes floating out from the petals.

I was thinking black and shade, although would definately be open to colour if it suited the design. As for styles, something abstract might be nice & this could keep the detail as simple as possible, compared to a more realist picture.I find myself having trouble thinking of designs, because I’m not a very good artist and get stuck thinking of literal depictions of things. The size could go up to about the size of my palm, otherwise a little bit smaller than that.
