I made a promise to myself that by my 21st birthday I’d have my first tattoo. Well that day is quickly approaching and it doesn’t look like I’ll have the cash to meet the deadline but I can at least know what I want. The problem is, I don’t really know how to describe what I want to the artist, so perhaps you could give some advice?
The tattoo is going to start on my upper right arm and cover my shoulder, some of my ribs and chest, and down my back. On the arm I’d like it to make a complete wrap around, stopping just short of where a t-shirt would end. Unfortunately in my line of work visable tattoos are grounds for dismissal. There is no particular image I want, in fact I want to avoid images or words all together. Instead I’m looking for long swirling curves pierced by the occasional line, all of it complex, interwoven, tight, and occastionally overlapping. What I’m really trying to get here is for the entire thing to flow, which is why it’s going to be so big. Think a massive celtic knot crossed with henna crossed with some tribal. I have no idea what to call this however. I have a few links to pictures that show aspects of what I’m looking for, but nothing seems to come up right. The swirl and tightness of henna art with the complex interweaving of celtic knots with the occasional jagged edges found in tribal’s is the best way I can describe it. Can anyone help me out here? Is there a style that this fits in to or even one that comes close that you know of? Thanks.

I am NOT a fan of tribal work but your concept DOES sound INTERESTING and I’d like to see it when it’s finished.
