Hey all, as you see my Names Scott, and i live in the UK

I’m kinda new to the whole Tattoo scene so was hoping to get a few pointers here and there from the ‘veterans’ of the tattoo world.

What i’m looking for advice on is that i simply do not know what tattoo to get, i’m sure it’s commonplace for this kind of thing so was hoping this place might find me some answers. Now i’ve been looking at a few things across google etc. and decided what i’m wanting, is kinda tribal style, which goes across my front and back shoulder, moving down my arm, and also my body – something similar to this http://www.enjoyevery.com/entertainment/tattoo/tattoo-designs-ideas/full_body_tattoo.jpg

Now like i said i know next to nothing about this kind of thing, my body is far from the size or tone of the one in this picture, so not sure how that would affect anything, but if there are any pointers or critics about this particular tattoo, please do say..

Right i’ve blabbered on long enough anyway, hopefully this should give me something to work from.

    Thanks a lot,

    Scott Jackson

I knew it! I fucking KNEW IT!

Before I clicked it, I knew you were going to have that pic of Anthony Lowther with that fake ass tattoo! My wife has known that guy for years, and I forget how exactly he said it was applied to him, but it ain’t real, but it seems like every first timer who wants tribals comes up with it!

Okay, though, seriously, that particular tribal design is highly popular these days thanks to that and similar pics (though that’s by far the most circulated. It’s been posted here no less than 5 times since I’ve been here, and that’s only been like 6 or 7 months). You may want to consider something else, just so you’re not ganking someone else’s design.

Besides, while tribals are cool, they’re like broccoli–awesome as a side dish, but bland by themselves. They’re a garnish, a spice. I think the best thing in the world you could do is to go somewhere and figure out what you want to say with your tattoos, or what imagery speaks to you rather than getting some random tribal. As the old joke goes “Could you remind me what tribe this dude is from exactly?”

Again, I just want to stress that tribals really ARE awesome if worked in with other imagery. Check out my own tattoos in my album–my first three all incorporate traditional tribals, and blade tribals in with other imagery, and even after seven years I’m still excited by them because I choose imagery that speaks to that angry little goth kid that still lives in me.

That’s what you’re supposed to do with tattoos. Find something that sixty years down the line you’ll still laugh at, or be proud of, because man, if you’re alive, that mother fucker is still gonna be with you.

    Love. Peace. Metallica.

    Hi and welcome

KH has a serious point about tribal it is great to add to a tattoo to emphasise a custom piece.

I understand that it is very tempting to get a piece of tribal as a first tattoo – there is so much of it and many of them do look great.

What you have to consider is:

Is it really you? Tribal is an ‘aggressive’ tattoo it is meant to portray fear and anger upon your enemies as well as looking as a great tattoo.

Before you commit have a long think about what you love in life – family sports art whatever it is that you really have a feeling for.

Once you get that nailed then start to think what sort of art excites you. I don’t just mean what you think is ok or cool but something you really feel excited about everytime you look at it.

Once you got a style check out other tattoos, books google images, deviant art etc and start to plan your design.

Put it up on the wall for a month look at it everyday and think do I want that for life.

Then get it drawn up and inked by a pro.

If you need anymore help let us know.

    Take Care
    Matthew
