Hey whats up Im John and I live in Hayward. I am looking into getting my first tattoo on my upper right arm. I am looking for a traditional koi design. Can someone recommend a shop around here that does awesome work? I was looking into State of Grace but the waiting list is a couple years and I would like to get it a lot sooner.

    Also, Couple of dumb questions.

A few of my friends have tattoos and they turned a greenish gray color while I seen others that stay pure black. How can I get it to stay black instead of that greenish gray color? Is it the ink or the tattooer?

    Thanks

    John

Its the ink. Welcome to the forum and I’ll look into shopsin your area and see if I can find any. I know some folx who know some folx. Maybe I can help if there isn’t anyone else.

As for the color change, that usually happens when inferior ink is used and thinned down. My personal preferance for black ink is Kuro Sumi, and if your artist will use it uncut it’ll stay black.

Search tattoo shops in a 50 mile radius of your area and look for ones that have a web page or my space page or something like that. Check out their photos online. That is a start.

    Hi

The have chromate poisoning because they used shite inks.

If you are willing to travel I would recommend Avalon tattoo they do great Koi and very friendly. I passed through there on my tattoo tour of USA.

    Here is the link.

Alternatively if you can hit LA there is Zombie Tattoos who did my Lion of Judah and are very reasonably priced. He even opened up on his day off so I could fit a tattoo in before flying to Miami.

If you click on my signature and read chapter 8 it will tell you about which tattoo inks to avoid.

    Take Care
