I had a first tattoo done a week ago. It scabbed up after about 2 or 3 days and the scab is now beginning to fall off.

Where the scabs have fallen off, the lettering underneath doesn’t look as dark/black as I expected it to.

Is it normal for the ink to look faded in this way?

Will it recover some of the darkness/black on it’s own as the healing process continues?

Or will I need to get it touched up?

    Thanks for any answers/advice.

    Hi Dialled

Well no ink ever looks as deep as ‘just out of the shop and bleeding’ look. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My advice is to let it fully heal and settle before taking any action. It is possible that you may need some touch up doing on the ink or it could be that the ink has/is settling into the natural colour.

Tats sadly do fade and need an upkeep every 10-15 years or less if you are a sun worshiper.

See how it is but many tats are slightly more faded than pre-scab but again depends on how much has taken, skin pigment and whether you picked the scab which lifts ink.

If really pale get a touch up after it has healed but give it at least a month or 2 to settle.

i would use a none scented moisturising cream for the next week to keep the skin in tip top shape…. give the piece about another 2 or 3 weeks until it has healed up and then check the colouring, just give it a little longer before thinking on the harsh side… its still healing at the minute..

you could post a close up clear photo of it so we can have a better understanding of how it looks, i dont recommend a shot from a cell phone though unless it is of 3M pixel or higher ๐Ÿ˜‰
