Hi all, I am having my third tattoo in a week’s time and have been thinking about my fourth for a while too.
I started thinking a while ago that I fancied a rainbow incorporated into a tattoo but I don’t want big tattoos and I’ve also fancied one on the back of my neck for a while and I thought that it would look really nice to have a rainbow on the back of my neck. While I definitely want this done, I’m trying to think of small things to go with the rainbow to make it look a bit less plain and ‘on its own’.
I liked stars myself and I drew this a few weeks ago (it’s not the best drawing )…

…but my boyfriend and mother (who both have no tattoos) both said it seemed a bit silly having stars with a rainbow when it’s impossible but I think they look really nice but wanted some other ideas that I could put in with the rainbow.
I’ve had little ‘v on the side’ birds given to me as an idea and little clouds too but I don’t like the regular sort of tattoo and I like different things.
Can anyone think of anything else that’s small that I could maybe put with a rainbow on the back of my neck? Or do you think the stars are nice and think I should go for them?
Just so you know I want the rainbow in the same shape and position as on the picture I drew (but I am open to all ideas!)
Any help and ideas are appreciated, thanks ๐
Hi Lyndsey
Well they are correct stars cannot be seen at same time as a rainbow as it is water and light refraction – but that brings me onto my suggestion.
Why not have a bit of water scene with the rainbow such as a waterfall and clouds.
The stars could be done as droplets of water glimmering in some clouds as the water splashes upwards in a spray creating a rainbow.
Just off top of my head let me know what you think.

Matthew.
Hi Matthew,
Thank you so much for your reply and idea. It sounds lovely but me and my mother have tried to put a picture to it but we’re struggling a bit. Is there any chance you could explain it in a bit more detail or possibly draw a simple picture so I can see exactly what you mean?
Thanks again ๐
Lyndsey
Hi Lyndsey
My drawing is so bad it would only confuse things further. ๐
Ok I will breakdown how I picture the tattoo based from your drawing.
To the left of the rainbow you have a waterfall pouring down. From the edge of some rocks or vegetation.
The rainbow is in the same place in your drawing but the start of it is emerging from the waterfall.
Below the rainbow you have a small wave effect of water.
Above the rainbow you have some clouds shaded in and where you have the stars these could be redone as blue droplets of water with a hint of yellow or other bright colours to represent the rainbow being reflected in the clouds.
The tattoo wouldnt be that much bigger as the waterfall could be represented by a few lines of water effect by an experienced artist.
Hope that helps some more.
Take Care
Matthew
Hiya Matthew, that sounds really nice, thank you ๐
I’m going to try and attempt to draw that myself and post it on here to see if it’s pretty much like what you’re suggesting…but it probably won’t be tonight coz I can’t draw for beans and take ages to get it right so watch this space :p
Thanks loads ๐
