Hi I’m new here and looking for some info on white ink.
I’m of jamaican and various european descent and therefore have dark skin.
I’ve heard that white ink will not show up on darker skin tones. I have a sort of yellow skin tone that turns golden brown overall
I’m looking to have a tattoo on my wrist which is one of the palest parts of my body even now during the middle of summer is currently yellowish brown lol ( I can see my viens through it if thats any indication to the colour) I aslo heard that parts of the body regulalry exposed to the sun are not a good place for white ink tattoos so I’d like to know if applying sunblock daily would be a good idea or if i should tottaly scratch that placement.
I live in New Zealand if that helps anything lol
Basically my question is would I be able to get a completly white tattoo or would you reccomend using light brown ink and is the sun going to be a problem.

    thanks in advance

    Hi Over

If it is any help I am very pale skinned and go like a lobster even in british sunshine. I had soem white ink on my wife portrait and it barely lasted 18 mths before fading out.

White ink is notorious for fading regardless of skin colour, also on the wrist tehre will be a lot of rubbing as you use that part of the body a lot or even if you wear a watch.

Based on your complexion I would suggest a darker ink brown, black, deep red etc to stand out better against your pigment. It will also last longer.

Sunblock does help with protecting the ink buty best to try and stay out of the sun. But most tats coudl do witha reshade every 10-15 years to keep them fresh.

    Hope it helps.

I’m sorry to say my man, but it isn’t just white. The darker you are, the less EVERY color shows up. Whites and yellows are just the worst. Just like Matthew, I’m so white that I glow in the dark, and I got me a tattoo with white teeth. Even with it out of the sun 99% of the time, the teeth are mostly flesh color.

On your skin, I wouldn’t even try it. I’m sorry, dark, dark, dark colors are your best bet my man. Your flesh is the window behind which your tattoo sits, and the darker you are, the more tinted that window is. You need something dark to power on through.

Also: Sunblock. He is you friend.

    Love. Peace. Metallica.

    Thank you.
I heard about the fading. I have other tattoos that I will have touched up every so often so that doesn’t really phase me.
I just wanted to know wether or not it would be a total waste of money.
As far as mixed race/ black people go I’m not very dark at all but I moved from england to New Zealand so obviously I’m quite a bit darker now lol
I wasn’t aware about thr rubbing being a problem thank you.

I’m not very dark as far as mixed race/ black people go but I could never be mistaken for a white person 😛 plus I now live in New Zealand where they actually get more than five days of sun a year.
For furture reference would you happen to know which colours show up best on darker sikn.
The natives here are quite dark so heres to hoping someone has come up with some decent ink

white ink does have a tendancy of fading, this is not the only setback of using it… white does not stand the trials of time in the sunshine and in many cases turns a yellow colour, this can also be caused by the use of stainless steel tubes and tips when the tattoo is being done.

a lot of artists only use white for highlights for these very reasons.;)

    thnks
I’m not ready to get it but I, I’m considering brown ink now I know better. I wanted white because it was different and if it worked i thought i would pop out. I think i’d prefer a more sublte look in that area now.
Would I have to get light or dark brown for that subtle almost scarred effect, sorry to pester you lol

that all depends on the darkness of your skin
