I got my first tattoo yesterday, and afterwards my artist told me to just wash with warm soapy water the first 4 days, and after start applying the fragrance-free lotion. He said NOT TO use any type of ointment or anything on it, because they tend pull away some of the ink and also can cause excessive scabbing. Yet I’ve heard A + D heavily recommended prior to him telling me this. I figured I’d just do what he says, but now its starting to really feel dry. What should I do?

YES! TRUST ME! I just got mine a week ago.
You want to apply A&D every hour, or at least as often as you can. You want to keep that area coated in A&D so the skin heals.
I waited on applying mine, and I got really bad scabbing. That can lead to infection.
