I agree with Sam. And I don’t see anything in that portfolio that would make me let him tattoo me, nothing that made me go “WOW”. And a couple that are pretty bad. If his portfolio is his best work then he has a ways to go yet.

There are so many amazing tattoo artists, find one of them. Get a kickass tattoo. If there isn’t anyone REALLY talented in your area then travel to one.

A free FIX-UP is not worth it if it makes the tattoo worse. Or harder for the next guy to fix.

After seeing your pics I feel better about my second tattoo. I let the original artist “fix” it for free. It looked better before it was “fixed”. It is not terrible, just not good at all. And the more really good ones I get, the worse it looks. I will have it reworked one day.

I’d like to see your Ben Corn tattoo. You hinted that you’re unhappy with that one too? I’m surprised.

Ben did the two japanese symbols with the trinity symbol and WCC, the stars and butterfly were done by that dumb ass scratcher possing as a good tattoois from a supposedly good shop located in the richest area of Arizona (Scottsdale). I paid Ben 300 bucks for his work and the other dumbass 250 for the other shitty work.
For someone who’s never been tattoos until just recently, I’m starting to think I made a mistake in thinking I would get ink as good as what I see in the magazines and on tv… apparently I can’t find anyone here in Arizona who does good work. Everywhere I talk to someone, they always mention that they know someone who does great work, but who the hell am I suppose to believe?

It’s obvious that I’m not too conserned with money since I paid almost 600 bucks for mediocre tattoos, my problem is finding someone who can actually tattoo stuff that isn’t shit. I’d really love to spend my money with someone who knows what the fuck they’re doing. It’s the story of my life… I can’t find anything worth while even if I try. I was always told you get what you pay for, apparently that saying is bullshit because I paid good money for shitty tattoos by people who are apparently suppose to be really good.

I actually like Ben Corn, I’ve seen his work and people go to him from all over the World, so why did I just get a mediocre tattoo from someone who is suppose to be “the best”? I don’t get it…

I’m going to the Arizona Body Art Expo & Beer Fest this coming weekend and I’ll be bringing my pocket book along in hopes I find some decent freakin artists, God forbid I still end up with a shitty tattoo… I think at that point I’ll just cut my fucking arm off and go find a hole to jump in.

So your experience with getting a spur of the moment convention tattoo makes you confident in your decision to get another one right quick? 🙂

Roman and Kirk Alley both do stellar work. Most decent tattooists will be booked for this months ago but there is always the chance.

I’m not going to this expo to get another crappy tattoo, I’m actually going to see what everyone has to offer and then hopefully it’ll help me make a better educated decision. Spending some time looking at what people are doing, looking through portfolios and talking with other like-minded people like myself, hopefully I’ll come out of this event with a better understanding of who I can go to in the future for good work and what to expect before deciding on what to have inked on my skin.

I have ideas of what I want, I have no clue how to put it into fruition… I leave that up to the artist to decide and hopefully I will have made a well thought out decision of who to have do my next work. I know there are tattooist out there who can take ideas and come up with genuine original works of art, if I didn’t want that kind of tattoo, then I’d be printing crap off the internet and make my job a little easier by saying I want This and This and This… the fact is, I don’t want this and that, I want something new, original and desinged just for me. But I expect the tattooist to be good at being able to put ideas into motion. I want masterpieces put on my skin, that’s what I pay them for. I’ll look for Roman and Kirk Alley as Buttwheat suggested, I’m excited that I might find someone who really is a kick ass tattoo artist, because that will be the person I want to do my next work and hopefully fix the crap I already have.

kind of shocked that youre unhappy with the ben corn tattoo. he is solid. i think it is more the error on your tattoo idea rather than artist in that situation. i mean, do you really want a non asian guy tattoo kanji on you?

Not sure exactly what you are trying to say Yodaddynukka? Are you implying that the reason people get shitty tattoos is because their ideas suck? I thought good tattooist are suppose to create works of art regardless of how stupid someone’s idea is… that would be like blaming Chip Foose for designing and building a shitty looking car that doesn’t run because the person who he’s building a hot rod for had some shitty ideas to begin with? Your logic doesn’t make a yoda bit of sense!

Let’s get something straight here, I never once said that Ben Corn did some shitty work on my arm. My original complaint was about the pathetic looking stars and butterfly that some loser scratcher put put on me. The crappy tattoo makes Bens look like shit, non of it goes together and the whole think just looks sloppy.

I like Ben Corn and what he does, I also think he’s a solid tattooist. However, I can’t just pick up on a whim and drive 12 hours to go see him to have the shaddy tattoo redone. If I could leave and get that done, I would have done that instead of coming here to complain. I think that getting out your frustrations can be healthy to a degree, I was hoping I would be able to get some frustrations out and hopefully get some good ideas on future tattoos, which by the way I have recieved. Thank you to those who have given me some things to ponder and consider in the future.

I’m not an artist, what is in my head looks like dog shit when I put it on paper. I depend on a good tattooist taking my shitty ideas and making something of them that look good and don’t negate what’s in my mind. Don’t blame people’s shitty tattoos on their bad ideas, how about blaming the shitty tattoos on the dumb ass who can’t tattoo?

It’s been said on here that my tattoos look like dog shit, there’s no changing the fact that they look horrible. I’m just trying to figure out who I can trust to fix my mistakes and hoepfully get some more really good tattoos in the future. I’ve got to get going now, my taxi cab driver just wrecked the car and ran a few people over at a bus stop because I gave him some bad directions to where I wanted to go…

Please excuse me as I didn’t read the whole thing, but yeah kanji, inititals, and some swirly stuff will make a crap tattoo 99.5% of the time; all of which I’m sure was your idea and not the artist’s. The trinity symbol isn’t that bad tho, probably the best tattoo out of the bunch. I’m sure all those things have deep and profound meaning to u, but sometimes meaningful tattoos tend to turn out bad. If u focused more on the art of tattooing instead of the meaning u would have much better tattoos and I wouldn’t be typing this.

Artist can only do so much – if your idea is horrible, the tattoo will be horrible. It may be well executed but may very well still be a shitty tattoo because the customer insisted on a shitty design. It happens ALL the time. Artists aren’t your mommy and can’t take responsibility for your choices. Sure, most will try to some extent if they know it’s a bad idea, but you get what you ask for.
