Hello everyone, just registered here. Anyway my question is this, yesterday my sister got me a gift card for a local tattoo shop, they have done a kick ass job with my sister on several tattoos. This, however, will be my first. The problem is I can’t think of any real great or unique ideas! I’d really like something that combines or contains any of the following things: my family (6 people), my love for music…particularly rock/alt., and/or something to do with the pacific northwest as this is where I am from. Okay, I know this is alot of things but any help or recommendations at all are appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

Have you already thought about the size and location of your tattoo (In other words: How much are you willing to spend)?
Also, do you want it to be b/w or (partly) coloured and what kind of style do you like?

Might be worth looking online for just general pics and artwork to do with the area you live in for inspiration, but the shape will depend on where your putting it because of your body shape etc.x

On a map, would the shape of where you live make a good body for a guitar? If so, then that would be a cool tattoo, you could have portraits of your family in the map/body if you were looking to spend a few quid.

I would separate them and get just one. Have you thought about ever getting more than one? If so, I would really think it over and decide on where you’re at with that beforehand. Sad but true – usually, if you try to cram a bunch of ideas into one design, unless the artist is super good at compositions (and has the liberty of using as much skin space as needed), it could end up just cluttering the entire thing. I like simplicity. At the very least get the artist to draw it all up for you even if you have to spend some x-tra money on it, then post that here and get some professional opinions. Not saying the artist isn’t super, but…ehh…it just sounds cluttery to me. Sorry. Good luck, whatever you do. Either way I look forward to seeing it. ๐Ÿ™‚

How much is the gift card worth?
It’s getting harder everyday to think of a unique tattoo, so stick to a real great one ๐Ÿ™‚ Ask your sister if any of the tattoo artists there specialise in portraits. You can’t go wrong with a good portrait of a family member(s).

Hey guys, thanks for all the input and advice, much appreciated! I like the idea of getting multiple tattoos instead of cramming several ideas into one. I’ve decided on my design, I won’t tell what, but I will post pics after I’m all healed up. And after seeing that pic a portrait is definitely a no-no, too complex anyway. ๐Ÿ˜›

Thanks again,

Joe
