Hi

I have been to Syria and there are tattoo artists there but they do not have studios as such because strict Islamic beliefs are that tattoos and piercings are ‘mutilation’ and you are cursed by G-d for getting them. I was told it is a word of mouth thing when there and did not see any studios advertising.

The state does not actually outlaw the practice but you sure as hell don’t want to be flashing ink around the place as some of the locals can get very edgy about the whole thing.

You will sometimes see the bedouin with facial tattoos passing through but these are set unto themselves and tend to do their own tattooing with needles and indian ink or similar.

Your best bet is to ask around (carefully) in Damascus as this tends to be the place that has tattoo artists.

I personally would not recommend getting done here unless you can see the equipment broken out from sterile and disposable.

Take Care
Matthew
