Traditional Japanese is a simplistic style which is based on the tattoos origin ‘Ukiyo-e print’. Considered by many to be ‘Authentic Japanese art’.

That guy you mentioned does not do traditional Japanese but he does do really good stuff in the other style. If you are willing to travel a little, I can recommend someone in Leeds.

Peter is quite correct. Can you post up any pics in this thread? What exactly is the style you want? Japanese work can vary greatly from strictly traditional to bold an westernised versions.

If it is below the elbow then it would be a 3/4 sleeve, are you having the inner side of the arm done too, as in a proper sleeve? Both my sleeves were done in about 12 hours. What is the motif?

Fair enough. Looks as though it can reworked, and background can always be added to Japanese work. Would defo go to specialist Japanese artist though if you want a full sleeve. Look forward to your progress.

There is one thing that goes really well with Koi and that is more koi. The key to aesthetic Japanese beauty is composition, you have a Koi and Lotus, then make the theme Koi and Lotus. You have plenty of other skin for other themes or things you like.

It’s an unusual style of Japanese, the background is kind of odd, not in bad way but kinda unique. It’s really well done and I like the use of subtle colour against the background, this is the way Japanese should look IMO. Who is the artist, wouldn’t mind checking out his other work. Cheers.

Darren Stares in Portsmouth is arguably the best portrait artist in the country, he is not far from London. He is booked up until next year though, but sometimes gets cancellations.

I have a few things to get sorted soon, then I will be getting my first tattoo.

I have decided on a 3/4 sleeve of a koi on the lower part of my arm swimming up, with a crane on my upper arm, with some sort of scenery/ foliage background maybe some flowers. I am leaving this bit up to my artist. It is going to be full colour.

I thought the blackheads would be problematic in getting tattooed being as they are a small infection under the skin.

I am not getting my arm tattooed to cover the imperfections on my arm, I just hope they don’t prevent me from getting the tattoo I want.

The pictures don’t show it but I have got some blackheads on my arms which don’t seem to want to go, I don’t have any inflamed acne on my arms but I am kind of worried that I am not going to be able to get tattooed.

Some people don’r recommend it because the numbing doesn’t last very long. When the cream wears off the tattoo will then become even more painful because your body hasn’t any chance to release endorphins or get used to the tattooing.

EMLA contains Lidocaine which has been known to cause cardiac arrest.
