Hello all

Below is a link to my tattoo

http://www.thetattooforum.com/album.php?albumid=3786&pictureid=7118

I need a little reassurance. When i was looking around studios, one refused to do it as small as my design, as I was expecting. But they wanted it enormous and were really unhelpful. I went to the next and they blew it up to the size it needed to be, which was a lot more acceptable.

But now I’m worrying that they didn’t make it big enough, due to comments I’ve read elsewhere. I of course trusted their judgement on size – the star had to be the size it is so the lines didn’t blur (i know it hasn’t all taken there, but I actually like the dilapidated look) so I assumed the writing would be ok. It’s my first tattoo and i had been told ‘trust your tattooist’

Am I sitting on a time bomb? I put factor 50 sun cream on whenever it’s close to seeing light, and top that up through the day if I’m sweating. I use either/both of lotion (to keep the foot skin supple) and tattoo goo (to keep the colour vibrant) every day.

I was wondering about whether it would be helpful to outline the writing in white ink? I’m not worried about the p or o blurring as they’re quite whispy but the s/y looks a little risky.

Please don’t just attack with ‘you’ve gone to some scratcher, you should have looked about you’ because I did look about and this is a well reputed studio in my area. I spent over a year researching this and designing it, and then they just enlarged my picture and neatened the lines. I adore it, care for it meticulously and dont want it go weird. If there’s anything I could do or should be doing differently, I will

What do people think? I’d be grateful for a response

First off…definitely isn’t big enough.
You’re going to have some bleeding…especially since it’s on your foot.

Secondly…I don’t care how many times you say otherwise…
Your artist did a horrendous job. The first shop was probably being realistic and the second one just wanted a quick buck.

I think the question here is, are you happy with it? If you are, all is good and it won’t matter what anyone else says about size etc.

Hey Ben

Yeah, I adore it. Completely. I didnt so much need opinions on the tat. but it’s so special that I’m worried about it becoming illegible. I know I’ll have to commit for touch ups in that area where ink may fall out – I was warned about that…but I’m wondering what can be done for blurring and how likely it is…because i love it so much and I don’t want it ruined.

adding white will not help in any way or form…. white never stays white and turns a yellowish colour over time, its great for highlighting a piece but it would not help in any way with yours unfortunately..

I would say if you like it now, live with it until it becomes unacceptable to you and worry about it then. It’s going to bleed a bit and I would think your only options will be to cover it up but you should cross that bridge when you come to it.

You will probably be fine. Tattoo goo is a waste in this area. Just use regular moisturizer or sunscreen if uncovered, outdoors. Dont worry too much about it fading or spreading. You may want it touched up later, but it looks like it will likely last many years.

Many thanks to those who gave helpful replies or advice.

I actually managed to contact someone through another forum who had similar sized text on her foot and it still looks pretty good over 5 years later so I’m feeling a lot better.

Chief D, why is tattoo goo a waste?

That will make a great cover-up some day. Just kidding. Chances are no matter how much Tattoo Goo you use, it will begin to fade and blurr. Stop freaking out and see what happens in 5 or 10 years.

you spent a year designing that ?? – were you asleep for 364 days 23 hrs 55 min ?

– get it covered with a proper tatttoo !

Well, i slept 100 days worth, Christmas happened, I did some work now and then – i probably spent a week’s worth eating….no need to be a cock really. Obviously no, i didnt draw it for a year. But i spent a year deciding whether I wanted it, placement, working at possible deigns, getting advice on here, reading magazine and walking round shops.

The fact I don’t have warty frogs all over my back does not mean I dont have a ‘proper’ tattoo. Just because it isn’t a full sleeve, back or chest piece doesnt make it less important or less of a tattoo. I didnt expect a lot of people to like it – I appreciate a lot of people are into larger, more elaborate pieces.

I wasn’t actually asking for an opinion on it anyway. Gsouder, Chief D and Topdog all managed to give a reply that answered my question or at least gave some advice. I’m pretty certain none of them liked it. But i was asking for advice on my tattoo. which is what this forum is meant to be for.

Tattoo’s are such a personal thing and if you are happy with it, sod all the crappy comments and just enjoy it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I would say the tattoo goo is not worth it in this scenario, as your tattoo is likely to have some dropout, due to the placement. You might as well not fork over the extra cash for the brand name, when an ordinary moisturizer will be sufficient. You will likely have to touch it up regardless of the product you use.

you were the one who invited the piss taking with a design that a 5 yr old could have come up with, and said it took you a year to come up with it !
A 10mm star – research !!! lol ! – and then using an artist who has little or no talent ! cock yourself ๐Ÿ˜€

( and no -a tattoo doesnt have to be big imho to be any good – just well done no matter if the design is good in someones opinion or not — and yours is neither !)

.. and in a few years time itll just be a grey blob !

Tattoo Goo, Tatt Wax etc. are all very similar. They were developed by tattoo supply companies and tattooist in general. Any good skin lotion was probably developed in a lab by an experienced company, dermatologists, and clinical trials. They are both going to serve the same purpose, but Tattoo Goo charges a butt load more!
The layers of skin above the tattoo are fairly translucent (ie see-through), That is why the ink shows through. Dry skin is more opaque and less color shows through. Anything that moisturizes the upper layers of skin makes your tattoo look good. Think how fresh most tattoos look right out of a shower.
I personally like Eucerin balanced hand lotion. Its inexpensive and works great imho.:p
