Default Is it harmful to a new tattoo to put too much after care lotion or ointment?

I just got a new tattoo yesterday, and I know that the aftercare instructions say to apply the ointment 4-5 times a day, I was just wondering if it is harmful to the tattoo to apply the ointment more than the 4-5 time suggestion?
