Hi All, glad I found you—

I am 72 years old and type 2 diabetic. I keep my glucose well under control and my a1c is 6.2. I last got a tattoo in 1963 while in the Army. I would now like to get one of my Army unit. Can diabetics get tattooed?
Any other concerns I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a reputable shop on the Tyler/Longview Texas area?

Welcome to the forum (and thank you for your service!).

Some diabetics can have healing issues, but I imagine that if that was a problem for you that you would probably be aware of that already. Be upfront with your artist, you won’t be their first diabetic client so they should know what problems to watch for or what extra care needs to be taken.

You may be their first with a 50+ year gap between tattoos!

I’d suggest it go upper torso, chest, or arms. They seem to be the easiest healing. My submarine dolphins and patrol pin on my chest healed real easy @ 62, but I have no sugar problems. Also suggest you watch your diet very closely around tattoo and healing time.

Thanks for the welcome and advice. There is “INK LIFE TOUR” coming to Longview TX in August. I’m planning on going and getting one there.
