This is my second tattoo and I’m really happy with it so far. Approximately 10 hours work and I still have a bit of shading to go, then full colour. Would love to hear some opinions on the artwork. Both photos were taken when the tattoo was freshly done.

Looks OK. To me it looks a little flat and needs some depth which the tattooist may do another pass to help with that.

Is that star your first?

The star was the first tattoo I ever did myself. Got given a second hand gun to play with and I just couldn’t resist using it on real skin. It was only my second time using the gun but I thought when I get good I’ll fix it up and turn it into the Southern Cross. My first tattoo is by the same artist as this one and is on my ankle.

I’m with buttwheat; it looks ok, but a bit flat. Your parents did a stellar job though.

Its a bit hard to render an opinion as it isn’t complete AND its a bit hard to see through the “new tattoo shine” – but I like it. It certainly has great potential – and it has beauty, instead of the all too common “badass” look. Looking forward to seeing the rest of it…

Got the shading finished three days ago. Feels good to have it looking a little more done. My tattooist said he’s just got to add the white highlights to make it pop. . . I went home and was thinking about what he said and now I’m scared he’s forgotten I wanted it all coloured, because I haven’t seen him for a while. Is it too dark now to be coloured?

I don’t think so. I can imagine some subtle coloring making that a fucking awesome piece.

Looking good, Don’t be afraid do discuss your wishes about color with your tattooist. White as a highlight will make it pop but only for a very short time.

While there’s nothing at all wrong with adding color; as a person who loves black & grey, this looks great as-is.
