Thanks, any sincere review and comments are welcomed!

EDIT: Oh yeah, this is still ongoing project, I will add a white tiger on the left side and a tortoise/snake on the top. Later on the background will be added.

OK, you asked for honesty. Japanese style tats aren’t really my thing but here’s what I see

On the good side:

The line work looks ok
the colors pop

The bad side:

Your tat is very 2 dimensional. When you look at the dragons head, for example, there isn’t anything to make it look like the head is closer to the viewer than the rest of his body.
There isn’t much composition to the design. Meaning, the way it was put on your body is the same way an artist would draw on a blank piece of rectangular canvas. You body is not a rectangular canvas, but a living space with curves and dips and valleys- none of which were taken into consideration by your artist.
The colors don’t go together. I don’t know much about Japanese style tats so it’s possible that these are traditional colors but from my point of view it looks like a neon mess of colors.

Just my .02…

I agree it’s not at all three dimensional. The phoenix looks much better than the dragon.
I’m sure it will come to get much better when you get around to adding the background.

BUT
I like the coloring, and the line work is pretty solid.

The pheonix looks ok but the dragon has some problems. If its a Japanese dragon the the number of talons is wrong. Also the dragon has hair, that’s just weird. Really if you were to show your ink to just anyone on the street, they wouldn’t notice a thing. But since your showing it on this forum, where there are tons of tattoo aficionados, its going to be picked apart. I wouldn’t sweat it to much. Congrats on the ink and keep is posted on future work.

Hey guys! Thanks for the reviews and comments, please keep it coming.

The idea of the dragon is to make it more of a chinese style dragon. There are dragons with 3 talons, 4 talons and 5 talons. According to the chinese mythology or culture the dragon with 5 talons means the emperor dragon as for 3 talon means a inferior dragon and yeah the dragon in the chinese culture has hair.

I also believe that the background will add more depths and more beauty to what it is right now. I hope so, hehehe.

Correct me if i’m wrong, I guess japanese style tattoo is mostly all 2 dimensional instead of 3 dimensional. It would be interesting to see a 3 dimensional japanese style tattoo art work.

Please, more comments and review, be sincere and thanks for all above!

See, I learn something new on here everyday. And yes Japanese style dragons have 3 talons. Thanks for the info, it makes a world of difference with your ink.

Also, dragon and phoenix are equal as far as power goes in mythology, so their heads are supposed to be at the same level.

Folk superstitions will tell you that they will be always fighting on you since you made one inferior.

as far as art work quality, I think everyone else pretty much summed it up.

looney, thanks for the info, that it something I didnt knew. But then I guess the size of the body of the phoenix or the tattoo itself equals the size or compensate for the smaller head, so in a way they are still equal hehehehe.

So as far as for art work, you mean it is a solid line and ok coloring?
So you would rate an 8/10? 9/10? 10/10? 11/10?

😀 thanks for your comment.
