I’ve been wanting to get a new tattoo that revolves around the idea of thinking independently (not believing everything one is told, reads, sees on tv, etc.) Pretty much not blindly following someone or something. I’ve been trying to think of ideas but I can’t come up with anything I’d want a tat of. So if you can think of anything let me know, thanks.

Also please don’t say the American flag or anything like that, I can’t tell you how many people suggest that when I mention independence.

Hello and welfome to the forums. It’s kinda ironic you want a tattoo that involves thinking independant and not blindly following, yet your on here asking for ideas. I’m just saying. I got nothing though, sorry I wasnt much help. Good luck.

A winged brain, flying free, is the first image that hit my mind.

What he said. are you unique or not? if you are, figure it out on your own and post pictures when you are done.

Have you considered reading a bit about mythology? there are many characters (like in Greek mythology) that can have very impressing characters,
so you might be able to find a charecter with the traits you are looking for

You could always go into your local flash studio and ask what is the most popular piece this year.
Get that one and be as indipendant as all the others.

…. I’m really tempted to say “is this thread for real?”

Try actually -being- independent, and figure out what actually matters to you, and what it means to you to be independet.
Go to a library. Read up on mythology, symbolizm etc, and I’m sure you can find something that suits you. Better than you will on a forum.

I think maybe you shouldnt fixate on what the tattoo will mean, and instead focus on what the tattoo will look like. To many times on this forum (as well as other tattoo forums), people make a thread asking about what represents their idea, and they get multiple answers and ideas, but it all just never seems to amount to anything.. ya know, amazing. I think many people have this idea that a tattoo has to have meaning to be a good tattoo, which is simply not the case. A crappy looking tattoo with meaning is still a crappy tattoo.

I think you should instead look at pictures. Pictures of other tattoos, drawings, paintings, and picturesque scenes from movies, shows, and other entertainment. Just find some images that make you go “Wow!”, cause the hairs on your neck to stand, and cause you to sit for a moment and fixate on it. Its these kinds of pictures that can really inspire you to think of something fantastic. I myself have 2 album covers tattooed on me, and while i like the band they come from, it was the artwork of the cover itself that i loved so much i got them tattooed. They both look incredible.

In the end, you will probably end up with something that not only you will love, but everyone else will be staring at you (in a good way :D) when they see it and wont be able to look away. Thats my 2 cents anyway..
